One of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands... Camping in protected nature
It's just a few steps away from Camping Geversduin; the North Holland Dune Reserve. One of the largest nature reserves within our country. The area stretches from Wijk aan Zee to the dunes of Schoorl. It's not just rolling dunes to see, you'll be amazed by the varied vegetation, forests, lakes and of course the coastline. When you visit the dune reserve, you'll be needing a so-called dunecard. A forester might check this pass (printed or online). Guests of the campsite receive a family card upon arrival.

Discover the area
The stunning dunes offer breathtaking sights. Enjoy various walking and bycicle routes. There are almost 50 marked paths within the North Holland Dune Reserve to walk on. Some are just a few kilometers, others provide in a day long hiking. The bike path is 30 kilometers long and crosses the surrounding villages. Wandering through the nature reserve you'll come across many animals and plant species. Important factors are the vastness and various vegetation. Also the height, humidity, lime content and the use of the area by mankind in the past provide for this great diversity of flora and fauna.
What animals do you encounter along the way?
There's so much to see and discover... Spot local wildlife
When strolling around the dune reserve, besides a lot of birds and insects, you'll probably encounter the Scottisch Highland cattle, Exmore pony's and Konik horses, sometimes even sheep and goats. These grazers are being used to keep the dune grass and meadows short, so the area doesn't become overgrown. The Scottish Highlander is a calm beast, which rather flees than attacks. But, don't come too close, they're not aggressive but they need their space.
Drop by Visitor Centre de Hoep sometime. Here you'll learn everything about the animals inhabiting our beautiful area, but also about gaining and purifying our drinking water within the Nort Holland Dunes Reserve. Super interesting and fun is to go on a guided tour with a forest ranger!
